Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam high-level meeting to take place in Hanoi

Vietnamese spokesman Le Dung said on September 20 that Vietnam will host the fourth high-level meeting of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, and the third Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) High-level Meeting in Hanoi from October 23-26 this year.

The two meetings will focus on reviewing ACMECS and CLMV (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam) cooperation, giving orientations for ACMECS and CLMV cooperation, and approving associated documents.

The ACMECS strategy was devised in November 2004 at the initiative of Thailand. Vietnam joined the strategy in November 2004 and has forged its initial role and prestige in the group.

Meanwhile, the CLMV cooperation was established at the initiative of Laos in 2004 with the adoption of the Vientiane Declaration on Strengthening Economic Cooperation and Integration among CLMV countries. (VOV)
